POWERPUFFS
POWERPUFFS is an experimental improvising trio rooted in free improvisation and the exploration of the extended possibilities of our instruments. We are interested in moving beyond established instrumental roles and expanding our sound palette through unconventional playing techniques, objects, voice, prepared and toy instruments, noise, breath, gesture and other forms of sonic experimentation.
The trio also works with video, both independently and in collaboration with other artists. Rather than treating the visual element as an accompaniment to the music, we are interested in creating a space where sound, image, voice and physical presence can influence one another and become part of the same improvisational process.
Each performance is created in the moment. We do not work toward a fixed repertoire, but develop a shared language through listening, reaction and experimentation. The instrumentation itself becomes fluid: a piano can become a percussive or textural object, percussion can move between rhythm and noise, the saxophone can extend into breath and voice, while video and other visual materials can open another layer of interaction.
We are interested in creating performances that can be playful, fragile, noisy, surprising and unpredictable, while remaining grounded in attentive listening and collective decision-making.
